Introduction: Veserc 16 is used to prevent and treat a disorder of the inner ear known as Ménière’s disease. The symptoms include dizziness (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and loss of hearing, probably caused by fluid in the ear. This medicine helps relieve the symptoms by reducing the amount of fluid. Veserc 16 should be swallowed whole with water and taken at the same time(s) each day to get the most benefit. How to use Veserc 16: Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Veserc 16 may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How Veserc 16 works: Veserc 16 is a histamine analog. It works by improving the blood flow in the inner ear which reduces the pressure of excess fluid there. Excess fluid can send signals to the brain causing nausea, dizziness or spinning sensations (symptoms of Ménière's disease). Veserc 16 additionally dampens down the nerve signals sent from the inner ear to the brain relieving the symptoms of Ménière's disease.
What if you forget to take Veserc 16?: If you miss a dose of Veserc 16, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.
Indication: Meniere's disease, tinnitus and/or progressive loss of hearing, vertigo, dizziness.
Administration: Should be taken with food.
Adult Dose: Adult: Initially, 8-16 mg tid. Maintenance: 24-48 mg daily.
Contraindication: Phaeochromocytoma. Porphyria.
Mode of Action: Betahistine improves the microcirculation in the labyrinth which reduces endolymphatic pressure.
Precaution: Active peptic ulcer, bronchial asthma, pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effect: Rash, pruritus, urticaria, dyspepsia, nausea, peptic ulcer disease, headache, dizziness, insomnia.
Interaction: May antagonise antihistamines. May decrease bronchodilator effects of beta-2 agonists.
