Introduction: Soframycin is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the eye (eg. conjunctivitis) and the eyelids (eg. blepharitis). It may also help to prevent an infection after an eye injury or surgery. Soframycin stops the growth of bacteria and thereby helps to cure the underlying infection. Follow your doctor's instructions precisely for administering this medicine in the eye. Wait for at least 5 minutes before applying any other eye medication. Side effects of Soframycin: Application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching and redness)
How to use Soframycin: This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.
How Soframycin works: Soframycin is an antibiotic. It stops bacterial growth by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.

Indication: Conjunctivitis, blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis
Adult Dose: Apply 1 drop 2-3 times daily into the affected eyes.
Contraindication: Known allergy to lanolin or framycetin. Fungal/viral or resistant bacterial eye infections
Mode of Action: Framycetin is an aminoglyoside antibiotic which is the major component of neomycin. Susceptible organisms include many gram-negative bacteria (but not Pseudomonas) and many strains of Staphylococcus. Used topically in the treatment of skin, eye and ear infections often in combination with steroids and other antimicrobials.
Precaution: Pregnancy.
Side Effect: Sensitisation, contact dermatitis, local irritation and itching.
Interaction: Co-admin of gramicidin with framycetin reduces the risk of selecting resistant bacteria.
