Introduction: Relye is a pain relieving medicine. It is used for treatment of postoperative eye pain and inflammation in patients who have undergone cataract surgery. Always wash your hands before using Relye. Use only the number of drops that your doctor has prescribed and wait for about five minutes between each drop. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the drops and wait for at least 15 minutes before putting them back in. You should not touch the tip of the dropper or bottle. How to use Relye: This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.
How Relye works: Relye is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by stopping the release of certain natural substances in the eye that are responsible for pain and inflammation (redness and swelling).
Indication: Postoperative ocular inflammation, Ocular pain
Adult Dose: Ophthalmic Postoperative ocular inflammation Adult: As 0.07% or 0.09% soln: Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily, starting 1 day before, and continuing until 14 days after cataract surgery. Alternatively (as 0.09% soln), 1 drop bid, beginning 24 hr after cataract surgery and continuing through the 1st 14 days of post-op period.
Contraindication: Bromfenac ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the formulation.
Mode of Action: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent; inhibits COX-1 and COX-2, which results in decreased formation of prostaglandin precursors
Precaution: Bromfenac ophthalmic solution should be used with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies or who are receiving other medications which may prolong bleeding time. Patients with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown should immediately discontinue use of topical NSAIDs and should be closely monitored for corneal health. Lactation: Excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
Side Effect: Abnormal sensation in eye, conjunctival hyperemia, eye irritation (including burning/stinging), eye pain, eye pruritus, eye redness, headache and iritis.
Pregnancy Category Note: Pregnancy Category: C; D in 3rd trimester Lactation: Excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
Interaction: Increased potential for healing problems w/ concomitant ophth corticosteroids.
