Introduction: OPT belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. It is used to treat seasonal allergic conjunctivitis (infection, itching, redness and swelling of the eye) caused due to pollens, dust, animal fur and other allergens. Follow your doctor's instructions precisely for using OPT in your eyes. It should be used regularly at evenly spaced time intervals as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It may also lead to burning, pain, irritation in your eyes but this effect is temporary.

How to use OPT: This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.
How OPT works: OPT is an antiallergic medication. It works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (histamine) which is responsible for red, itchy, watery eyes.
What if you forget to take OPT?: If you miss a dose of OPT, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Indication: Allergic conjunctivitis
Adult Dose: Adults: One drop in each affected eye once a day.
Child Dose: Children (above 2 years of age): One drop in each affected eye once a day.
Contraindication: It is contraindicated incase of hypersensitivity to Olopatadine or to any component of the preparation.
Mode of Action: Olopatadine is a relatively selective histamine H1-receptor antagonist which inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and histamine-induced effects on conjunctival epithelial cells. It shares many of the pharmacologic effects of mast cell stabilisers.
Precaution: Not intended for contact lens-related irritation. Pregnancy and lactation. Remove contact lenses prior to eye admin. Reinsert contact lenses 10 min after admin. Do not wear contact lenses if eyes are red. Improper handling may contaminate soln w/ bacteria that may cause ocular infections. Tip of the dispensing container should not be in contact w/ eye, eyelids or surrounding structures. Monitoring Parameters. Lactation: Unknown if distributed into breast milk; use caution

Interaction: May result in additive CNS depression w/ CNS depressants.
