Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Montene 10 may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. How Montene 10 works: Montene 10 works by blocking the action of leukotriene, a chemical messenger. This reduces inflammation in the airways to prevent asthma and relieve symptoms of allergies. What if you forget to take Montene 10?: If you miss a dose of Montene 10, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose. Indication: Asthma, Allergic rhinitis Adult Dose: Oral Chronic asthma Adult: As film-coated tab: 10 mg once daily in the evening. Allergic rhinitis Adult: 10 mg once daily. Prophylaxis of exercise-induced asthma Adult: 10 mg at least 2 hr prior to exercise; do not take additional doses w/in 24 hr. Elderly: No dosage adjustment needed. Contraindication: Hypersensitivity. Mode of Action: Montelukast is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks the effects of cysteinyl leukotrienes in the airways. Precaution: Not for the relief of acute bronchospasm. Not to be used as monotherapy for the prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm. Patients in whom asthma is precipitated by aspirin or other NSAIDs should continue to avoid aspirin and NSAIDs. Do not abruptly substitute for oral or inhaled corticosteroids.
