Introduction: Lumigan is a medicine used to reduce pressure in the eyes in adults with glaucoma and high pressure in the eye. If the pressure in your eye is too high it can damage your sight, potentially leading to blindness. It works by helping fluid flow from inside the eye into the blood. Lumigan is suitable for adults and children and can be used by itself or in combination with other eye medicines to reduce pressure. How to use Lumigan: This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.
How Lumigan works: Lumigan is a prostaglandin analogue. It works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, thereby lowering the increased eye pressure.
What if you forget to take Lumigan?: If you miss a dose of Lumigan, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.
Indication: Open-angle glaucoma, Ocular hypertension
Adult Dose: Adult: Ophth Open-angle glaucoma; Ocular HTN As 0.03% soln: Instill 1 drop once nightly.
Contraindication: Known hypersensitivity.
Mode of Action: Bimatoprost is a prostamide analogue with ocular hypotensive action. It is postulated to lower intraocular pressure by increasing outflow of aqueous humor through both the trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral routes.
Precaution: May increase pigmentation of the iris, periorbital tissue and eyelashes. Active intraocular inflammation. Safety and efficacy have not been evaluated in the treatment of inflammatory, neovascular or angle closure glaucoma. Ensure at least an interval of 5 minutes between admin of ophthalmic preparations. Contact lenses should be removed prior to admin. Pregnancy, lactation. Lactation: Excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
