Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Gestrenol may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. How Gestrenol works: Gestrenol is a progestin (female hormone). It helps in maintaining pregnancy by promoting the attachment of the embryo to lining of the womb and improving blood flow to the placenta. It also relaxes the uterus muscles thereby preventing premature labour. Indication: Adult: PO 5 mg 3 times/day for 5-7 days. Administration: Enhanced clearance with enzyme-inducing drugs eg, carbamazepine, griseofulvin, phenobarbital, phenytoin and rifampicin. Ketoconazole may increase bioavailability of progesterone.
