Introduction: Benzac is an anti-bacterial medicine used to treat acne. Acne appears as spots or pimples on your face, chest or back. This medicine works by attacking the bacteria that cause them. Benzac may be used alone or with other acne treatments. You should use it as advised by your doctor. The leaflet that comes with the product will also give instructions which you should read to get the most out of this medicine. How to use Benzac: This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.
How Benzac works: Benzac is an organic compound. It has a keratolytic property, i.e., it even out the uneven skin. When applied on acne, it releases oxygen which kills the bacteria. This is how it works to cure your acne.
Indication: Acne vulgaris
Administration: Apply sparingly to affected areas after thoroughly washing skin.
Adult Dose: Adult: Topical Acne cream: Apply 1-2 times/day.
Contraindication: Hypersensitivity.
Mode of Action: Benzoyl peroxide has mild keratolytic effect and antimicrobial activity which is attributed to its oxidative property. It is active against S.epidermidis and P.acne.
Precaution: Discontinue if severe irritation develops. Restart with tolerable levels of treatment after irritiation has cleared. Do not use occlusive dressing. May cause dermatitis in allergic patients. Apply carefully near the eyes, mouth, neck and other mucous membranes as well as other sensitive areas.
Side Effect: Excessive drying of skin, allergic dermatitis. May bleach fabrics or hair. Skin discoloration; skin rash, peeling, transient local oedema.
Pregnancy Category Note: Pregnancy Category: C Lactation: excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
Interaction: PABA sunscreens may transiently discolour fabric.
