Introduction: Adapel is a medication used in the treatment of mild to moderate acne. It prevents the formation of small pimples, blackheads and whiteheads on the skin. It reduces excessive oil production of the skin and reduces inflammation or cleans the blocked pores. Adapel is for external use only. You should always use it exactly as your doctor has told you. The affected area should be clean and dry before application. You must wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying this medicine. How to use Adapel: This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the gel. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.
How Adapel works: Adapel is a form of vitamin A which treats acne (pimples). It works by preventing accumulation of the sebum (skin’s natural oil) which unblocks the pores and allows natural exfoliation of the outer layers of skin.
Indication: Adult: Topical As 0.1% soln/cream/gel: Apply once daily at night after cleansing.
Administration: Increased irritation may occur with medicated or abrasive soaps, products with a pronounced drying effect and those containing alcohol or astringents.
Adult Dose: Patients with sunburn, eczema. Pregnancy, lactation. Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight or UV irradiation. Keep away from the eyes, lips, nostrils and mucous membranes. Do not apply to cuts, abrasions, scaly or flaky skin, or patches of sunburned skin. Use with caution with preparations containing sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid. Lactation: Excretion in milk unknown; use with caution.
Renal Dose: Adapalene binds to specific retinoic acid nuclear receptors which normalises the differentiation of follicular epithelial cells resulting in decreased microcomedone formation.
Mode of Action: Apply small (pea-sized) amount sparingly to entire face after cleansing with nonmedicated cleanser. For topical use only;
